Asian carp have invaded the United States, with silver and bighead populations infesting Mississippi River basin waters as far north as the edge of the Lake Michigan basin in Illinois, and the Lake Erie basin in Indiana. An Asian carp invasion to the Great Lakes will clearly impact both U.S. and Canadian waters, but with established populations only in the U.S., efforts are focused on prevention primarily in the Chicago area. The question isn't whether Canadians should have input into preventative actions that, if they fail, will permanently change our shared waters. Rather, the
question is, how?
The first step is having Canadian stakeholder voices heard by both Canadian and U.S. policymakers. Please sign a petition asking for hearings in Canada on the Asian carp. Visit http://www.glu.org/asiancarppetition2011 and take action today!
